The Company

Venteur provides an Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement (ICHRA) platform that helps employers offer employee-sponsored healthcare by facilitating direct relationships between employees and insurance carriers. Unlike traditional group health insurance where the employer selects one plan for all employees, ICHRA allows employees to choose their own individual health insurance plans from various carriers during open enrollment. Venteur's platform manages the complexity of multiple insurance carriers, plan options, and the reimbursement arrangements that make ICHRA work.

The Problem

ICHRA creates a documentation challenge that doesn't exist in traditional group health insurance. With group insurance, the employer completes enrollment paperwork once with their chosen carrier. With ICHRA, each employee might select a different insurance carrier—one employee chooses Blue Cross, another chooses Aetna, another chooses Kaiser—and each carrier has its own enrollment forms with different fields, formats, and requirements.

When hundreds or thousands of employees make their enrollment selections during open enrollment, Venteur needs to generate the correct enrollment forms for each carrier, pre-fill those forms with employee information, and ensure they're completed correctly so enrollment processes smoothly. Manually creating templates for every insurance carrier's forms would be unsustainable—there are dozens of major carriers, each with multiple form types, and forms change periodically as carriers update their requirements.

Additionally, the forms must be filled accurately. Enrollment errors—incorrect birth dates, wrong SSNs, mismatched dependent information—cause enrollment rejections that delay employee coverage and create administrative headaches. Pre-filling forms with employee data is essential, but first those forms need to be templatized so they can be filled programmatically.

Before implementing an AI-powered solution, Venteur faced a choice: manually configure templates for every carrier form (requiring ongoing maintenance as forms change), or require employees to manually fill out carrier forms (eliminating the automation that makes ICHRA practical at scale).

The Solution

Venteur implemented Anvil's Document AI to automatically templatize insurance carrier enrollment forms, enabling automated form filling for any carrier without manual template configuration.

When Venteur needs to support a new insurance carrier or a carrier updates their enrollment forms, they can upload the PDF to Anvil's platform. Document AI analyzes the form, automatically identifies fillable fields—applicant name, address, birth date, SSN, dependent information, plan selections—and creates a template that maps those fields to the employee data Venteur collects.

This AI-powered templatization is dramatically faster than manual configuration. What might take 30 minutes or more of manual work identifying and mapping fields is reduced to a quick review and refinement step. Venteur can support new carriers quickly without dedicating substantial staff time to form configuration.

When employees complete their enrollment selections in Venteur's platform, they provide all necessary information: personal details, dependent information, plan choices. This data flows through Anvil's system to automatically fill the correct carrier enrollment forms. If an employee selects Blue Cross, their information populates Blue Cross forms. If they select Aetna, their data fills Aetna forms. The automation ensures consistency and accuracy across all carrier submissions.

The Document AI approach also handles carrier form updates gracefully. When a carrier releases a new version of their enrollment form, Venteur can quickly re-templatize it using AI rather than manually reconfiguring field mappings. This keeps the system current without ongoing maintenance burden.

The result is that Venteur can support the full diversity of insurance carriers employees might choose in an ICHRA program, with enrollment forms automatically generated and accurately filled for each employee's selection, making ICHRA practical at enterprise scale.
